Washington County stretches a long way east to west, and South Mountain separates it from Frederick County. Whether Tonya can get to you on a particular day depends on her schedule and what else is planned. She won't promise exact days or routes before you talk. A few things make it easier:

• Share two or three windows that work for you.
• If you're on a farm lane or mountain road, around Smithsburg, Cascade or west toward Clear Spring, give a landmark or nearby crossroads.

What to expect at a Washington County pickup

Washington County sellers sometimes have supplies stored in basements, garages or outbuildings. Water and heat damage are common reasons a box becomes ineligible. If you aren't sure about storage, look for warped cardboard or faded printing, and mention it when you call.

West of Hagerstown: Clear Spring, Big Pool and Hancock

Washington County runs a long way west along I-70 and US-40, narrowing to less than two miles wide at Hancock between the Pennsylvania line and the Potomac. Towns like Clear Spring and Big Pool are closer in. Hancock, at the far western end, is a long drive from the rest of the service area.
